First off, let me start by sharing this link to a forum I am a mod at:

Incredible Amphibians

Gastric Brooding Frogs/Platypus Frogs

     Northern Gastric Brooding Frog, Rheobatrachus
    Southern Gastric Brooding Frog, Rhenbatrachus

Gastric Brooding Frogs were discovered to be living in Australia after being thought extinct. Although, shortly after they were rediscovered both species went extinct in the 1980s ( the Northern disappearing 18 months after being rediscovered) The frogs got there names because after the male fertilized the eggs the female swallowed them up. Her stomach would expand to fill most of her body cavity by the time the froglets were ready to leave mom. Habitat included wet rainforests, and possible reasons for extinction include habitat loss and degradation, pollution, Global     Warming, and the Amphibian chytrid fungus.Their ability to swallow their offspring without digesting the has lead scientists to believe that if they were still living they could harness that ability to treat stomach ulcers and other problems.
